CentriQ (short for eccentric) ... Born Courtenay John Tyrell Fitts was born in the Bronx, NY on August 23, 1985, but raised throughout the state, attending schools in Westchester, Manhattan and Queens. At a very young age CentriQ developed a love for writing. By the age of 13 he had achieved multiple honors and awards for articles, short stories, and poetry that he produced. His love for writing soon grew into a hunger for the ARTS. He experienced hands on what being a professional entertainer was all about while attending (Y.T.I.) Youth Theatre Interactions, where he studied Acting, Singing, and even Dance. "Growing up in Soundview at the time, my mother and father were always worried that I would end up in a gang, or in jail, or even dead". It was not until CentriQ's father, Alex, was held at gunpoint one night on his way home from work due to mistaken identity, that both parents decided to move the family out to Yonkers, NY to live in a much better neighborhood, still couldn't afford the suburbs, but it was a neighborhood where CentriQ and his younger brother could play outside without having to worry about bricks being thrown from roof tops or bullets flying through the air in broad daylight. After a year of living in Yonkers, CentriQ's mom, Sandra, decided that her son, who was an excellent student, was still spending too much time outside and felt that he needed to be doing something a little bit more productive with his time, so she enrolled him into Y.T.I. "Y.T.I. was basically where it all started for me, from my first class to the final performance with the team, I knew that entertaining was what I was born to do." Soon after CentriQ began pursuing a career in entertainment, still writing, which at that point had now turned into writing songs, hooks, and rhymes and by also going on acting auditions. Unfortunately, due to real world circumstances and the hurdles of pursuing a career in a cut throat industry, CentriQ decided to put his pursuit on hold and attend college after graduating from high school, but after completing one year at St. John's University, where he majored in Communication Arts. He quit. "I knew that completing college was definitely something I could do, but it just wasn't what I wanted to do." CentriQ felt lost, he felt as though something was missing. So after one year at SJU, he decided to take a long break to really figure out his place in life. During that break CentriQ decided that he was going to take his gift of writing to the next level, "I wanted to take all my ideas and turn them into music" and enrolled as a full time student @ The Institute of Audio Research where he studied Music Production and Audio Engineering. Soon after graduating he began interning for Interscope Records where he met a lot of industry professionals, which would later become his number one source for advice and connections. Even though CentriQ was now fully committed to the music world, he never forgot about his interest in acting and auditioned to become apart of The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts where he was accepted and also awarded a scholarship to attend the school, but ended up turning down the offer because of his tight schedule. CentriQ now felt that he was on the right path. He ended up hooking up with a former classmate (Universal Infiltration) one night after a long hard day of work ... "I never intended on being an actual artist, I always saw myself as a behind the scenes person when it came to music, but one night U.I. let me hear this track he had been working on and something CRAZY happened." "He was like, Yo Fitts, I know you feeling this, you look like you got something to say". "In my mind I was like, Nah, but I got something to write." "But the fact that he invited me up on the mic excited me so much to the point where I was like Fu** It." "That's the night we laid down our first track ... C.I.A. Stash." (Also featured on -ArChAiC- ) CentriQ and U.I. became a team after that night and from then on it was smooth sailing ... in the studio week after week, just producing and writing, writing and producing. "What makes this partnership so special is the fact that everything we do is completely original, no sampled beats and we are not using other musicians' hooks. We are not trying to sound extra hood or sound like what other's ideals of Hip Hop should be." "We do what we do, and we do it well." CentriQ is the first artist in a long time besides Kanye West who decided to approach this industry with a fresh outlook and by just being who he IS. There are too many actors in the music industry right now, and there are too many artists who are all talking about the same things over and over again. CentriQ plans on killing all that noise with his debut, and due to popular demand, it's looking like he will succeed. This guy has a bright future ahead of him. GET READY !!!
