The getting out and approaching @grumpycyclist in a manner that made him fear for his safety is common assault - a different (and additional) offence.

Pedestrians must have been very alert not to have been taken out by that idiot, and you could have easily ended up being the chief witness for the prosecution in a Causing Death by Dangerous Driving case.

Good riding on your part - many (possibly even most) cyclists in Cambridge would have assumed that the HGV was going to turn right, as left is a dead end (except for buses and cyclists).
