Eddie Henderson - Mahal 1978 An excellent document of how the rawer soul jazz spiritualism of the early 70s smoothed out to become the spacey mellow fusion of the late 70s. The players all have their jazz funk chops -- and include Paul Humphrey, Herbie Hancock, Bennie Maupin, and Bill Summers -- and they've taken years at their craft to perfect their interplay in a subtle fashion, without the heavier full-on message of earlier days. Skip Drinkwater's producing the set -- and as on some of his best work from the time, he manages to give the whole thing a smooth sound, yet still retain a lot of the soul. Lots of nice grooves, with almost a Larry Mizell feeling to them. Bennie Maupin - reeds Herbie Hancock - keyboards Mtume - percussion Hubert Laws - flute Julian Priester - trombone Paul Jackson - bass Bill Summers - drums Ray Obiedo - guitar Howard King - drums John Bowen - keyboards
A quick look around will tell you that my favorite kind of music is Funk and Funky Jazz. That's what you'll find here. I hope there's something to your liking which perhaps stirs fond memories for some and tweek the interest of others.
The only thing I ask is that if you desire to comment on this channel you leave religion and politics out of the conversation. I want this to be just about the music and people so please come with an open mind and leave the agenda behind. Peace, Will

Remember Us! My Military Tribute to our Armed Forces both Active Duty and Veterans. To the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard or National Guard. Me, well I had a need to create this tribute, to stand up and support our Fallen Soldiers and our troops. I am a song writer and yes I sing the song. I used photos from various websites; I believe as Americans the authors will support me and this cause. Please join me in supporting our Fallen Soldiers or Fallen Warriors, and our Veterans. The video is about the terror of going to War, and as our brave men and women deploy they constantly see their lives flash before their eyes. I wont say much more than that except that the ending is indeed sad. But then so is reality. Walk with us as we pay our respects for our Fallen Soldiers who willingly stood in harms way to protect this Great Nation. We pay Tribute to the US Army, US Air Force, US Marine Corps, National Guard, US Navy, Allied Forces, and last but definitely not least the United States Coast Guard.
With I might add special attention to our Military Veterans.
To our Fallen Soldiers, our Warriors our Heroes, we will never forget you.
I also support Hope4Heroes, to find out more about this program of Veterans helping Veterans see Hope 4 Heroes at: http://www.hope4heroes.org/
One more important item The Mojave Desert Cross. This is something that should concern all Active Duty and Veterans alike. To find out what the issues are and to stand up for Veterans rights go to: Mojave Desert Cross at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeuBB_...
Don't forget to check with your local American Legion or the VFW for info on Veteran's Day Memorial Service's in your area. Support our Heroes this Veterans Day.
I will be posting a new Tribute video very soon honoring the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw. Be sure to subscribe so youll be the first to view. Yes I will be your friend.
Layers of Polyrhythms . 3 Dimensional music. Which is simultaneuiosly like being lifted off the ground and being very HAPPY at the same time . Rhythms which are beyond above and beyond the simple simple numbers which music is conventionally counted in 2 .3 ,4 6 etc. Even Einstien couldn't analyise the Funk if he tried . I t often defies the idea of a time signature . Like it's in 4/4 or 6/8 . It can have some kind of 6/8 & 4/4 together but it is on a level above these . . It has it's origins in Africa .It's a way of LAYERING rhythms by feel . It's too complex to do with the BRAIN .It has to be FELT as a continuos FLOW. A way of playing which is complex and sometimes technically demanding ,but it goes beyond mere technical mastery to that mystical space within us where feelings come from and where Spirit Mind and Body meet !! HEAD HANDS AND FEET !!
Thank you for your friendship, the rating and your added kind words. I am indeed very honored. I am proud to stand beside you my brother, and support our troops and our nation. God Bless You and Those you Love. Take care my friend. Tom
