About this user
The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an innovative centre for basic research, created in December 2000 and officially inaugurated in 2002. Legally, it is a non-profit foundation supported by the Catalan Government through the Innovation, University and Business Department (DIUE) and the Department of Health (DS), as well as the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN) and a few private foundations.
The CRG is a pioneering centre in Spain, based on a non-bureaucratic organization research model, devoted to promoting basic research about fundamental life science issues, attracting and producing top scientists at all levels. Group leaders at the CRG are recruited internationally and receive support from the centre to set up and run their groups. An external Scientific Advisory Board periodically evaluates all of the principal investigators. The result of these evaluations determines their future at the CRG, no matter whether they have open-ended or fixed-term contracts. This ensures high standards of excellence in science as well as mobility and renewal of the workforce.
Besides, the task of scientists at the CRG is supported by: a) state-of-the-art Core Facilities and Internal Services, which include Advanced Light Microscopy, Genomics, Proteomics, FACS, Bioinformatics and High Throughput Screening, Histology, and Protein Expression and Purification; and b) a multidisciplinary management team devoted to efficiently manage and solve all the administrative issues involved in research.
The CRG is in the unique position of being a top-level institute not belonging to a large corporation. Instead, the CRG is a compact and agile research centre, well-funded and featuring cutting-edge technology and first-rate scientists from all over the world, who are keen on pushing forward the frontiers of science.
