What is Predestination?
The Bible speaks of predestination from beginning to end. Without predestination nobody can go to heaven. Predestination means "predetermined or bound for the light."
God uses the Holy Spirit to quicken, give life or energy to, who He wills. He quickens His elect family who are believers in Him because it was His will to choose them and adopt them into His family and put belief in their heart since they could not do this on their own; "There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God." (Romans 3:11). God did this because He wanted to do it. It was His sovereign will.
You are a member of God's elect family when you believe and do truth. Doing truth is the action form of believing. Doing includes adding to your faith; virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity (love) and suffering for these things (II Peter 1:4-8). Suffering comes by telling the truth (word of God) to others and being persecuted for it. God's elect family will be persecuted for telling the truth because Jesus was persecuted for telling the truth; "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." (John 15:18-19). The persecution crucifies self (outer man) of the believer. This process of putting self to death (carrying your daily cross) is evidence of the believer's faith unto God. As the believer dies to self over many years Christ (inner man) grows and becomes stronger in the heart of the believer guiding him in the way God wants him to go.
The believer is not saved by his works, but by God working in him. God has saved, is saving and will continue to save the believer over a lifetime. Being saved is not a one time event, therefore, one does not "get" saved. You don't get saved by walking down the aisle at the church building and accepting Christ! Accepting Christ comes out of Roman Catholicism. Accepting Christ doctrine is not biblical. God does the choosing. He selects His elect family. Just as a human father adopts a child into his family, the child does not "accept" the family and become a part of it by his own will, but by the will of the father who performed the adoption.
Those who are not believers in Christ are against Christ, therefore, they are anti-Christ and do not love truth. The world loves darkness and the glorification of self, not God. God's people are vessels of mercy and love God and want to please Him because He is their Father and God's children love ("agape") their Father and desire to obey Him. Those who God has adopted into His family will not be lost; "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." (John 6:37). However, God will chasten His children who do not obey making them conform to His will and not their self will.
