I am a middle-aged Englishman (46 yoa) and I soooooooooo do NOT believe in the existence of the Christian God. However, even if I DID believe in the existence of such a being, I would find it exceedingly difficult to avoid coming to the conclusion that He was a sadistic, psychopathic 'c u next tuesday' - an omnipotent thug.

I think that Mr Thomas Jefferson summed up the character of this (putative) unsavoury Deity pretty adroitly, a couple of centuries back, when he said: "The Christian God is a being of terrific character - cruel, vindictive, capricious and unjust."

I believe that the good Mr Jefferson also once said: "Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on Man."
