About this user

C. J. Laity has been an active writer and poet in the City of Chicago for over two decades. While attending Columbia College in the 1980s, he helped inspire the formation of an English Department. He graduated in 1987 and became a performance poet and a poetry organizer. Laity hosted a long running poetry reading series called the Living Artists Society, that featured dozens of poets in thematic shows. He served as performance review editor and later as editor of the Letter eX Poetry News Magazine. Laity served as the poetry coordinator for the Bucktown Arts Fest for eight years. He is the founder and publisher of ChicagoPoetry.com, the organizer and host of the Chicago Poetry Festival, and the author of four books of poetry. His new book, Disco Hypnotic, is a 550 page nonfiction title. In 2005 Laity appeared simultaneously on CBS World News, NBC, ABC Good Morning America, WGN and CNN as a representative of the Chicago Poetry Scene. For four years straight, Laity has headlined the Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Stage at the annual Chicago Tribune Printers Row Book Fair as host of his ever popular Chicago Poetry Chicago. His website, ChicagoPoetry.com, receives over a 500,000 visitors every year.
