About this user

I am a self taught Underground Hip Hop beat maker/producer. I started making beats in 2003 off of a Sony Playstation music making program called MTV Music Generator 2, which led me to purchase MTV Music Generator 3. The more I messed around with those program, the more I thought about eventually buying some professional equipment. In 2007, I finally was able to gather up enough money to buy my first set of equipment, which was a 17" Mac desktop, Mbox 2 pro with Pro Tools 7le, a pair of M-audio BX8a speaker monitors, Sennheiser HD 280 pro headphones, a Lacie harddrive, and the Roland Fantom X6. From that point on, I literally spent most of all my free time locked up in my home/bedroom studio, studying and researching everything I could get my hands on that dealt with making and creating music, while practicing on my newly acquired gear. Pro Tools was very hard for me to understand coming from the Playstation Music Generators. The Fantom X6 was a lot closer to what I was already familiar with in beat making. So I made a lot of beats using the Fantom X6, but my mixes were terrible. In 2008, I raised some more cash, and bought a program called Propellerhead Reason, an Edirol PCR 300 midi controller, and the Micro Korg Synthesizer. Reason had a lot of built-in sounds that could be manipulated with its built-in modules that were very usable for my needs at a affordable price, so that is what I chose. My problem was for some reason, I did not like the sound when I exported my tracks out of the program, and I didn't understand how to use Pro Tools, so that rewire option was out. However, I did like how the workflow in Reason was, and how editing with a mouse was much less time consuming. My mixes in Reason were horrible. I needed something that would be a little bit more intuitive to my understanding, and to my workflow. The fact that I noticed that I picked up on the hardware a little bit faster than the software, and was making a lot of music with the Fantom and Micro Korg, I began to researched on some more hardware, but mainly this time for sequencing and mixing. I searched the internet, and there were all kinds of hardware sequencers and mixers. The fact that most Hip Hop beat makers/producers were using MPC's and mixers running to their DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) programs at the time, I knew I wanted something different, but something with an MPC like feel. I went to the recording store and seen the MV-8800 with a mouse and computer monitor attached to it via VGA, and I was immediately interested in what this machine was capable of. I didn't really talk to the sales rep because I didn't want them to tell me just anything to make me spend my money. Instead, I went back home, and did my own research on the MV-8800, and seen that for my needs, it was perfect. I went back to the store a couple days later, played around with the floor model that was in the store for display, and right away I new this machine was going to be in my home/bedroom studio. I asked the sales rep to please hold one for me brand new, and that I was going to come pick it up in a couple of days. They held it, and I picked it up like I said. Ever since I got to understand this machine, for me, Pro tools and Reason became easier for me to understand as well. I been making so much music, and playing it at so much high volume and confidence, I blew out one of my M-Audio BX8a speaker monitors early in the year of 2009, and been working with just my headphones (HD 280 pro), and one speaker all the way to the end of 2011, until the second speaker monitor got blown. For my bedroom/home studio, I was going to purchase the Yamaha HS50m monitors, but I thought that if I'm in the small room with untreated walls, then a pair of PC monitors probably would serve my needs a little better, plus save me some money to purchase a little video camera for video purposes. So I took a gamble, and bought a pair of PC speaker monitors to replace my previous monitors instead, and it worked.

Now, I am always working to improve on my beat making, and I take criticism very well. The MV-8800 is officially as of now my *Weapon Of Choice*, and the heart of my home/bedroom studio.
