The Central Coast Assistive Technology (CCATC) is a diverse technology center that provides assistive technology (AT) evaluations, training and education to increase independence and functioning of people with disabilities. CCATC serves individuals living on the Central Coast of California.
CCATC produces and hosts a local TV show called Curb Cuts which aims to increase the public's awareness and understanding of AT and its power to enhance the functioning and quality of life for people with disabilities. Each episode focuses on a different type of assistive technology and features personal experiences of local individuals. Examples of show topics include hands-free computer alternatives, blind/low vision technology, assistive listening devices for hard of hearing, and adaptive recreation. By featuring the personal experiences of local users of assistive technology on TV, Curb Cuts aims to give people with disabilities a greater voice in the media.
