Born in Salvador (Brazil), Cláudio Seixas holds a Masters in Music Composition from UFBA (Federal University of Bahia) and an undergraduate degree in Composition and Conducting from the same university, where he studied with Lindembergue Cardoso and Agnaldo Ribeiro. In private courses, he studied guitar with Nélson Faria, arrangement with Cláudia Cimbleris and film music with German composer Peer Raben (who wrote soundtracks for several Fassbinder movies) and David Tygel. A professional musician since 1985, he has worked as a composer, arranger, guitarist and music educator.
Seixas' compositional experience includes his participation as a member of the arranger/composer team invited by the School of Music of the Federal University of Bahia to write several scores, including orchestral ones, for the "Projeto Sala de Concertos" (Concert Hall Project). These performances took place in Castro Alves Theater, Castro Alves Arena Theater and the Rectory of UFBA and included participation by the UFBA Symphony Orchestra, The Choir of UFBA, Gilberto Gil, Moraes Moreira and Os Panteras. Cláudio Seixas' has also created original soundtracks for plays (Quarto de Casal and Red Não é Vermelho) and films (Ligação directed by Dody Só and Crônica do Ter directed by Valter Bruno). Cláudio Seixas' Songbook Vol.1 was released by B.M.E. Publishing Company in the German and North American markets. It was available on the B.M.E. website from 1994 to 1999.
As a musical director and instrumentalist Cláudio Seixas' has collaborated with theater and dance groups including Barracão 5, EBATECA and Corpo Group. He has worked with theatrical directors Eduardo Calazans (Era Uma Vez Tchan, Tchan, Tchan, Tchan), Joran Macedo (O Amor em Seu Jardim), Nadja Turenko (Três Marias e Aparecida), Deilza Neves (Diante da Lei) Adelice Souza (Red Não é Vermelho), Adriano Soares (O Fim do Espetáculo) and Victor Cayres (Quarto de Casal).
Cláudio Seixas spent two years in Seattle (U.S.A.), where he performed with several musicians including the Brazilian jazz group, Second Nature. Along with John Boucher he created a quartet whose repertory was based in Seixas' own compositions. Besides his own instrumental music work, Cláudio Seixas has performed with several groups and artists such as Banana da Terra Group, Nota de Passagem, The Cutty Jazz Quartet, Café Jazz, Phil Sheeran, Brian Chambers, Samia Panni, William Morales, Joatan Nascimento, Son Melo, Nana Meirelles, Roze, Rebeca Matta, Márcia Castro and Fred Menendez.
In 2005, Cláudio Seixas created and facilitated a special extension project for undergraduates at UFBA entitled "Soundtrack for Theater: Conception, Composition and Execution". Recently, a condensed version of this course took place in Alagoas State, promoted by SESC (Commerce Social Service) and UFAL (Federal University of Alagoas). His teaching experience also includes a semester administering the subject Improvisation III for undergraduates in the School of Music of the UFBA and a year teaching the Basic Course in the same University.
