I am a 16 year old American. Proud classical liberal/ modern libertarian. I am an optimist, and I will debate you.
Communism did not lose its final battle in 1991. The truth is that communism had lost the battle with capitalism long before. The conditions for living in the free world far exceeded those behind the iron curtain, even after "modernization".
The great liberating force for the working class in the last 200 years has not been socialism, nor has it been unionization. It has been industrialization and the accumulation of capital.
"When everyone has a distinct interest, men will not complain of one another, and they will make more progress, because every one will be attending to his own business."- Aristotle
"Libertarianism is for those who want to be treated like adults; socialism is for those who want to treat others like children."
From 1897 to 1937 the US Supreme Court struck down close to two hundred state and federal laws regulating a wide variety of market relationships,
between 1937 and 1995 the Court did not strike down a single federal statute as exceeding the powers granted Congress in the Commerce Clause
Protectionism is one of the worst ideas in all of economic history. The expansion of trade which has occurred in the past 500 years has been the driving, and arguably the sole factor in the rapid development in technology and advancement of living conditions for all people. To argue against trade is to argue against peace, progress, prosperity, and the record of history.
The United States Class system data demonstrates how upwardly mobile Capitalism truly is. In the lowest 20%, only 4% remain there longer than 2 years. The lowest quintile is constantly getting replenished by Students and Immigrants. They move up from this 'poverty' rapidly. Within 5 years of being poor, over 1/3 of those formerly poor people move up to the top 20%, with an other 1/3 moving to the top 40%. Capitalism is constantly upwardly mobile unlike Communism.
"At the root of all forms of communism, compulsory or voluntary, lies a profound hatred of individual excellence, a denial of the natural or intellectual superiority of some men over others, and a desire to tear down every individual to the level of a communal ant-heap. In the name of a phony "humanism", an irrational and profoundly anti-human egalitarianism is to rob every individual of his specific and precious humanity."
-Murray Rothbard
"There are two places only where socialism will work; in heaven where it is not needed, and in hell where they already have it." --Winston Churchill
"The most intriguing, and certainly the most enduring trait of Keynesianism is that it is wrong."
"...a wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."
- Thomas Jefferson
