The Budapest Tourism Office (BTDM Nonprofit Kft.) was created by the Municipality of Budapest in April 1996 with the aim of bringing together under one roof those tourism-related promotional activities that had up until that time been undertaken by a range of separate agencies. Nowadays, BTO contributes to enhancing and promoting the image of Budapest in a wide variety of ways. Internationally, it targets particular visitor groups where it is considered most likely to meet with success, it provides all branches of the tourism industry with comprehensive information, and of course it acts as a principal source of information for visitors once they have arrived here.
BTOs website (www.budapestinfo.hu) contains an unrivalled amount of tourist information in several languages. As well as all the basic information expected there is an events database containing details of a huge range of entertainment opportunities, special events, festivals and other attractions.
Widely distributed, the Budapest Guide which contains essential visitor information and the City Map are available in no fewer than seventeen languages.
The Budapest Card is also run by BTO. Since its introduction over five hundred thousand visitors have now taken advantage of the free use of public transport and discounted admission to museums and attractions that it offers.
