Debating Matters India - 2008
Debating Matters is an exciting new national school debate that has been initiated by the British Council, in partnership with the Institute of Ideas of London, as part of its Intercultural Dialogue Project. It is a debating competition with a difference for high schools students. In India the competition will be for Class XI students only.
Competing schools will vie for the top prize of an opportunity to debate with the UK Debating Matters champion school in London in July 2009. Debating Matters is a very successful schools debate competition in the UK, pioneered by the Institute of Ideas and supported by Pfizer, in the UK and in India.
UK Environment Film Fellowships
The UK Environment Film Fellowships have been awarded every year since 2005 to Indian environmental filmmakers, to create 12-15 minute impactful documentaries. Till date, 15 filmmakers have been awarded these fellowships.
The purpose of UKEFF is to build capacity and encourage the environment filmmakers community in India. The films made by these filmmakers are important communication tools that drive awareness and action among viewers on the impacts and possible solutions for safeguarding the environment in India.
International Climate Champions
Climate Change is one of the most important challenges the world is facing. Spreading the message about climate change is important. The future citizens of tomorrow young people who care about the issue enough to inform other people in their communities about climate change in India will play a key role in mitigating the effects that climate change is causing in India and worldwide.
The British Council launched the international Climate Champion programme in January 2008 to select 20 young Indians as Ambassadors for mitigating the harmful effects of Climate Change, three of whom represented India as International Climate Champions at London and at the G8+5 summit in Japan in May 2008. It is part of the British Councils global International Climate champions project.
British Council, India/Srilanka has now launched the second phase of the Indian Climate Champions programme to select young people as Ambassadors for communicating Climate Change and its impact on India and globally.
