Perfect? I didn't mean to suggest that, although he certainly was a wizard (on the keyboard) and also a bit of an aburdist. His thoughts are sadly beyond my ken, but his ideas about music, animals, the electronic age, and other subjects are well documented. Check out The Genius Within ...

Gould always hummed when he played, although it's more evident here than usual. Gould's mother (his first piano teacher) encouraged him to do this. Many of us who love Gould enjoy his humming and other quirks. Not for nothing is he the most documented classical pianist of the 20th...

I don't see an old man here; I see GG at his peak. Yes, he had a bad back (as the result of a childhood injury). And yes, he tended to hunch over the piano. But these videos are priceless. BTW, he wasn't gay.

We agree. Gould always did things his own way, not just piano. Too bad he died at 50. He would have been a terrific conductor.
I will check out Celibidache. Thanks for the tip!

@mmcrosbie I don't think Glenn is showing off here, but he's still very much a perfomer. Look at the films by Bruno M. about Glenn. Despite his well-known aversion to performing in public, Glenn was a born performance artist who loved the camera. I think this is part of his genius and why so ma...
