********** Brief History of the Gangs **********

CV: Comando Vermelho (CV, Red Command) is a Brazilian criminal organization founded in 1979 in the prison Candido Mendes, on the Ilha Grande island, Rio de Janeiro, as a collection of ordinary convicts and left-wing political prisoners who were members of the Falange Vermelha (Red Phalanx), which fought the military dictatorship.
The Comando Vermelho still control 53% of the city's most violent areas and seeing streets tagged with "CV" is common in many favelas in Rio de Janeiro.
The principal rival gangs of the Comando Vermelho is the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP, Pure Third Command), Amigos dos Amigos (ADA, Friends of Friends) and the milicia called Liga da Justiça (Justice League).

ADA: Amigos dos Amigos (ADA, Friends of Friends) is a criminal organization that operates in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. It was started up in 1998 when a member of Comando Vermelho was expelled from the organization for ordering the murder of another member. The gang's main rivals are Comando Vermelho (CV, Red Command) and Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP, Third Command Pure).
ADA currently controls Rocinha, the largest favela in Rio de Janeiro and drug points in the North and West zones.

TCP: Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP, Third Command Pure) is a criminal organization that emerged in the Complexo da Maré in 2002.
During most of that year the TCP remained as a smaller faction, but after September 2002, when Luiz Fernando da Costa, Fernandinho Beira-Mar led a revolt in a Bangor jail, killing some rivals, including the Uê, leader of the TC this broke their alliance with the (ADA), and then the traffickers have occasionally TC or to the side of the ADA, or migrated to TCP.
Since then the TCP outlets dominated areas north and west, more specifically in the neighborhood of Senador Camara, with little expression in the Centre and the southern In Senador Camara, the main favelas are: Korea, Rebu, Cavalo de Ferro and Vila Aliança. Since 2005, however, began, like other factions, to take casualties to the action of the militias.
Currently TCP controls 38.8% of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

Militia: Liga da Justiça (Justice League) is the largest and best known militia faction of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Members of this group are ex-parlamentarians Natalino and Jerominho, besides the ex-cop Batman.
The name of the militia came from the name of the comic book's American publisher DC Comics. The duo Batman and Robin was formed by Ricardo Teixeira Cruz (Batman) and Aldemar Almeida dos Santos (Robin). The two were killers.

PCC: Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC, First Capital Command) is the most biggest and violent prison gang of the world and criminal organization founded in 1993 by inmates of Taubaté prison in São Paulo. Since its inception, PCC has been responsible for several criminal activities such as prison breaks, prison riots, drug trafficking, highway robbery and terrorist activities.
PCC and which was also formerly referred to as the Party of Crime, and as 15.3.3 (following the order of the letters "P" and "C" in the former Brazilian alphabet) use Chinese tattoo ("yin yang") symbol as their emblem, saying it represented "a way to balance good and evil with wisdom.
Since the beginning of Friday May 12, 2006 there have been 299 attacks against public establishments such as police stations, justice forums, buses, which are organized by the PCC.
The PCC rival gangs are Terceiro Comando da Capital (TCC, Third Capital Command) and Comando Revolucionario do Crime (CRBC, Revolucionary Crime Command).

CRBC: Comando Revolucionario do Crime (CRBC, Brazilian Revolutionary Crime Command) is a criminal organization that acts primarily on the Sao Paulo Guarulhos presidio. It was established in 1999 as the main opponent of the First Capital Command (PCC). His criminal philosophy is similar to the his opponent, but its structure is much smaller and weaker than the rival.

TCC: Terceiro Comando da Capital (TCC, Third Capital Command) is a rival group of the First Capital Command. Was articulated by Caesar Augustus Roris da Silva (better known as Cesinha), former leader of the PCC.
The faction operates in Sao Paulo prisons, and even having been founded by former members of the party's faction has been losing force since the assassination of its leader, stabbed to death in the chair of the city of Avare, led by the rival faction of the PCC. The Terceirão (Big 3), as is known, dominates few jails in the state.
