Scriabin also had distaste for Rachmaninov (boiled ham anyone?). Tolstoy also wasn't a fan of Rach (as are many critics and classical-listeners).
I wouldn't say Stanchinsky is more profound than Prokofiev, the Sixth Sonata, for example, more than contends this work. Prokofiev was a melodic compo...

@SparkSSBM Which I think is the problem he lost. Peach doesn't have enough mobility to get around off of the top platform. Everytime Armada got on top, HBox just spaced in the center of the stage (and recover his jumps with the moving platforms).
I'm not suggesting Armada plays Peach like Young...

@punkpoetry I think that only applies to this movement. The 3rd movement (Intermezzo) is vintage Prokofiev - sarcastic, lyrical, and trailblazing.
Even if this movement is Rachmaninovian, the modulation sleight-of-hand in the narrante section and the grotesque romp before the Cadenza all bear P...

Art is disciplined passion. There is no excuse for slamming keys or missing entire passages. Toradze yells and shouts, and all the poetry of Prokofiev are lost in his cacophony.

There's more to atonal pieces than atonality. If you don't like the harmonies, listen for thematic development, texture, rhythm, structure... all of which abound in this piece. If you just want to hear major and minor chords with an occas...

Unless you've gotten better, I don't see how you can call Prok 2's Cadenza "not difficult" after hearing how you handled the ending of Prok's 7th Sonata. I thought you were a concert pianist by your attitude, but seems like you've still got qu...

@fenderbender92 No. Hence all the "more" enjoyable. Even outside the domain of classical music (which is where I assume the elitism is coming from), studying the context of any song or music will give you a deeper appreciation. Bob Dylan's "Hard Rain" for example, would make little sense if the l...
