Self Interest is entirely consistent with the Bible. God's answer to, "Lord, am I my brother's keeper was effectively yes and no discussed in the rest of the Bible. As we make good choices out of self interest it has the affect of benefitting our brother. If we make good choices it inspires others to follow suit. Self interest often gets confused with selfish. Entirely differenct meanings though self interest uncontrolled can easily become selfish and greed.

Set the stage so to speak for ultimately studying Economics. One of the Principles of Economics is the Principle of Self-Interest that helped determine the laws of Supply and Demand. At some point, i came to realize human behavior is incredibly predictible, given every choice a human makes is subject to self-interest ie receiving a psychological or material benefit. Pitted against itself in free markets it generates abundance. Conversely, in any controlled market that same self interest guarantee shortages and scarcity. We were all born Capitalists, because out of self interest we take our first breath.
