Today's top story is "All Are Welcome".
20 years ago when Francis T. Eck first acquired the 1700 acres of rolling hills and meadows in Amherst County Virginia, these words "All Are Welcome" were immediately expressed in his open door policy. And Townley IV Farm was born.
Townley IV Farm-the legacy of Frank Eck lives in his generosity to the Sisters of Bon Secours and Bon Secours Health System. And his philosophy of "All Are Welcome" still holds true today.
You may not know yet that Francis...or Frank...T. Eck, brother of Sister Pat Eck, was a life-long supporter of the charitable and religious missions of the Bon Secours Health System, the Sisters of Bon Secours and the Catholic Church.
Frank died this past August, but not before leaving a legacy of the philosophy he lived..."All Are Welcome".
You see, Frank donated his interest in Townley IV as a charitable contribution to BSHSI and the Sisters of Bon Secours with the idea that Townley IV be used for retreats and conferences as a comtemplative place for the Sisters of Bon Secours. And "All Are Welcome"
As he had done over the past 20 years Frank's desire to keep Townley IV as a retreat and weekend refuge was transferred to Bon Secours ..."All Are Welcome".
In appreciation, Bon Secours Health System, Inc and the Sisters of Bon Secours in the United States, Incorporated drew up Resolutions of Appreciation: Francis T. Eck
Then on December 20th, 2010 the Bon Secours Health System Board of Directors held a service to dedicate its Board Room in Marriottsville, Maryland...the Francis T. Eck, Esquire Board Room.
Frank's legacy continues with the gift of his farm to the Sisters of Bon Secours and the Bon Secours Health System..."All Are Welcome."
Townley IV Farm will now be available as a retreat and conference center to Bon Secours and others.
"All Are Welcome".
In other news, every year Greenville Business Magazine publishes their list of the 50 most influential people in Greenville.
This year as in the past, the list is in no order of importance as the magazine considers the contributions of each of the recipients to be important in shaping Greenville's business and community landscape.
Included in that list are a couple of folks we know. And whom the magazine believes made an impact on Greenville specific to 2011.
You already know Mark Nantz, CEO of Bon Secours Greenville Health System.
The other is Camilla Hertwig. Why should you know her? Well because she is the Chair of the Quality Committee at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System.
Of Ms. Hertwig, Greenville Business Magazine wrote, "With a long-standing history of bringing innovation to education, leading non-profits in strategic development and ensuring quality in healthcare, Camilla Hertwig is making an enormous impact on Greenville.
Of Mr. Nantz they wrote, "In his second year as CEO, Mark Nantz's leadership of Bon Secours St. Francis Health System is setting new standards of clinical excellence for patients, spotlighting growth, quality, outreach and sustainability efforts."
The article goes on to trumpet their many accomplishments for the Greenville community over the course of 2011.
To read more, google the term "Greenville's Most Influential"
Please join us in congratulating Mark Nantz and Camilla Hertwig for this prestigious recognition.
Finally, Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Virginia certainly knows how to kick off the new year.
This year Bon Secours Mary Immaculate had the honor of bringing in Hampton Roads first baby of 2012.
Dominic Markus Greenwood was born at 12:31 AM on January 1st, 2012. And has the distinction of being the first born in Hampton Roads.
Weighing in at just 5 pounds and 9 ounces and measuring all of 18 inches tall, Dominic Markus Greenwood came into this world with all 10 fingers and toes.
According to Dominic's dazed father Daniel Greenwood, "He was just amazing, it was a great night."
Daniel and Chelsea Greenwood are first time parents and really did not expect Dominic to arive so early, but they have no complaints.
Shortly after Dominic was born the second baby for the year in Hampton Roads was born at 12:37 AM.
It was indeed a good start to the new year for Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Well that's it for this week...oh, one final note...We are taking some time off here at BSN Headline News. Our next broadcast will be February 13, 2012.

Today's top story is SQP or Strategic Quality Plan.
It's the start of a new year and a good time to re-assess where we are and where we want to go.
Every 3 years Bon Secours develops its Strategic Quality Plan as a roadmap to follow for the next 3 years. Currently we are in the third year of our latest SQP which runs through fiscal year 2012 or August 31, 2012.
Currently Bon Secours is in the process of reimagining our next SQP which is set to kick off September 1, 2012...the start of the 2013 fiscal year.
But for now, we are still working with the current SQP.
The current SQP includes our Mission statement, our Vision and our Strategic Goals.
The SQP strategic goals are.
to...Partner With Our Communities To Co-create a More Humane World, Improve Health and Model Social Justice
Create an Extraordinary Individual Experience of Care
Become a Trusted Health Partner by Providing Exceptional, Life Long Value
and
Liberate the Potential of Our People to Serve.
The Strategic Quality Plan has many consistencies from plan to plan but changes to help meet the needs of the communities we serve. Additionally, the SQP always aligns with Bon Secours' Mission, Vision and Values.
You can find out more about the Strategic Quaility Plan on IRIS. Just search for the term SQP. And watch for updates to the next Strategic Quality Plan.
In other news, spending for Flexible Spending Accounts for calendar year 2011 has ended but it is not too late to submit claims for services rendered in 2011.
In fact, you have until March 31st, 2012 to submit your claims for services received in 2011. So don't delay.
Of course any expenses incurred in 2012 will go against your 2012 Flexible Spending Account if you enrolled in the coverage during open enrollment in 2011.
There are a couple of ways you can find out more. You can go to ConnectYourCare.com or you can contact the Customer Support Center at 1-866-522-5204. Or you can contact your local human resources representative.
Whatever way you elect to find out more, be sure to complete your claims by March 31, 2012 as that is the deadline for submitting claims for calendar year 2011.
Finally, since it is a new year now might be a good time to review your retirement savings.
And there are some modest limit changes this year over 2011.
The IRS has announced elective defferal limits....or what we like to call contributions...for employees who participat in 401(k), 403(b), most 457 plans, and the federal Government's Thrift Savings Plan for 2012. They have all increased. For most of you it is a 403(b).
The contribution limit if you are under age 50 is now $17,000 anually...up from $16,500 last year.
And if you are age 50 or older the limit is $22,500...up from $22,000 in 2011.
So if you are interested those are the increases this year. By the way, you can adjust your contribution amount anytime you like. It is not limited to just the beginning of the year.
But you do understand that it is always a good idea (not required) to review your retirment plans on a regular basis.
If you need help with this you can always go to the Valic website at Valic.com or contact your local human resources representative.
Well, that's it for this week. Stay tuned to this portal for future up to the minute information on these and other stories on BSN Headline News. I'm Dave Schlachter. Happy New Year everyone...and thanks for joining us.
