I am currently in the midst of producing a film on the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, KS under the title "The Highway to Hell." Filming has already begun but due to limited budgeting the project cannot be finished by myself and needs at least a handful of people with some filming experience and contact information for Gay Rights activist groups in order to finish what has been started.
Let me explain more clearly: Topeka, KS is a town that is literally under intimidation by the Phelps. The organization spawned into creation for the sake of countering the WBC and its law firm, the Concerned Citizens of Topeka, has disintergrated and at its basic core no longer exists to fight off the Phelps. The WBC has won lawsuits against the state of Kansas, most notably the recently attempted legislation at having funeral protests placed at least 90 feet from where the actual funeral is being conducted: The Phelps Law Firm won a suit of $7 million from the state, and had the law changed to 50 feet, instead of the initially proposed 90.
This group must be stopped by whatever legal means possible. These people will not be persuaded by acts of kindness or civility; their evil is inevitable. When I say they "must be stopped" I am not referring to putting a silence to their group activities, this would be unconstitutional. Rather, the Phelps need a barrier boundary for what is and what is not acceptable. It is appauling that a congregation such as this should win a lawsuit against the state of Kansas. Furthermore, little has been done when it comes to appealing to the Federal government, and due to lack of prioritized organization within the Concerned Citizens of Topeka, we find that the group dissolved rather quickly for obvious reasons.
My film is not only an attempt to get at the Phelps in a way that hasn't been done before (in my opinion) either by asking the wrong questions or not really digging all that deeply into the Phelpses' psychology. The film is also a means of addressing this evil and making it more widespread. If the Phelps are under protection of the American constitution, then we must make it our priority to ensure that they will no longer bully and intimidate the common citizens of Topeka and the innocent family members of our fallen servicemen.
The above URL is not my own site but one that I think deserves promotion and kudos. Please assist this person in anyway you can possible. Organization is the key factor if we wish to combat the Phelps legally.
