About this user

Bobtown is Karen Dahlstrom, Jen McDearman, Fred Stesney Katherine Etzel and Alan Backer. The band was formed in 2007 by Katherine whose experiences working in the cornfields of Iowa as a child inspired her to try her hand at penning her own "field hollers" - soulful and mournful hymns that were incorporated by slaves and other workers in effort to find solace through song during their days of heavy toil. The band expanded its repertoire into other genres of music as the additional members of Bobtown began contributing their unique folk and roots-influenced songwriting to the group. Currently, the band can best be summarized via the review of fellow New York musicians, American String Conspiracy: "Bobtown reinvents American choral music for the 21st Century to create a unique and compelling blend of voices and folk instruments that move gracefully between elegy and celebration."
