Up on the high, high hills - with my floating friend - Watchin' all the silver - no one can ever spend I feel the touch of her hand and all it will erase; These footprints I followed tho they followed my every pace - Days, be more than all we have. No matter how much I cross I always see the same stream. I'm standing up on these bridges that are standing in a dream.

Scans of scarce poetry book(let) "The Night", by Patti Smith & Tom Verlaine, published 1976. The music is from Tom's 1992 instrumental album, "Warm & Cool". The piece is called "Ore". The book was called The Night reportedly at least partly 'cause Tom & Patti wrote all the poems in one night. Even numbered poems are by Tom, odd numbered by Patti. Patti consciously relates the book to French poet Arthur Rimbaud, as you can see from the last two scan pics, & from the French she scatters here & there. But arguably many of her poems here have more William Burroughs influence than Rimbaud in terms of style & imagery.
For those interested, here's a link to a downloadable file of the same scans (with clearer, easier to read text, without the fuzziness of the You Tube's less-than-ideal JPEG image reproduction quality) of my copy of The Night: http://www.4share...
Also, for Tom Verlaine/Television fans, here's a link to a file of approx. 60 old/rare Television/Tom V. articles I collected between 1978 & 1990: http://www.4share... Most have interview content. The articles date from '74 - '90. Included is the semi-famous 1974 article/review Patti wrote about the early Television band . After years of procrastinating, I finally got around to digitizing the articles, & putting them out there so other fans can read them, 'cause they deserve to be shared. Enjoy.
You Tube's image reproduction of The Night page scans leaves this small-print paragraph near the end particularly fuzzy & hard to read:
QUOTE: "This book is in two parts, part one titled 'The night', part two 'Independence day'. Part two is to be published next season. The edition is of five hundred copies printed on Star Antique paper. 25 copies are signed and numbered by the poets and specially bound with a wrapper and a signed broadsheet of a celebratory piece to Rimbaud by Patti Smith. Cover and title page design after an 1896 edition of Rimbaud's 'Les Illuminations'. Typeset in Baskerville throughout."
(Note: I believe the proposed part-2 follow-up book to "The Night", to be called "Independence Day" & mentioned above, was never published).
Btw, I've not yet seen the scarce poetry book "Wanna Go Out?", by Tom Verlaine & Richard Hell, but would be interested in seeing scans of the book if a kind collector might be willing to share.
