Kids have the option of playing professionally in Europe out of high school. As long as they are on a university's dime, they have an obligation to keep up with their school work. I know the culture of amateur athletics is very different now-a-days, but these are schools we're talking ...

That is a myth. This team was super talented. Alford was Big10 Player of the Year, Dean Garrett was Freshman of the Year, and Daryl Thomas went in the NBA draft. Hardly a team of scrubs.
