About Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem Irish Music

Songs by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem sung by the Frobisher Bay Volunteers. Marist College graduates, Jack Burke, Bruce Magner (Died 2004), Ted Flynn and Bob Johnson got back together in 1989 to record the songs they sang in the 1960's. A fifth member of the group, Rich (Rich in Spirit)McKay was not able to join them this day.

The Frobisher Bay Volunteers formed in 1964 at Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York. They played many hootenany's, concerts and in several local watering spots in the Hudson Valley. Thy played college's up and down the Hudson Valley, New York.

Many of the hootenany's were judged and The Frobisher Bay Volunteers came in first in every hootenany they entered. The group practiced long and hard and perfected their sound.

The Frobisher Bay Volunteers practiced evey night in the College Cafeteria and played gigs two or three nights a week. It was a labor of love for three years, until, upon graduation, the Vietnam War interfered, and the group dissolved.

Jack Burke was the music director; he has an uncanny ability to place four, and in some cases, five part harmonies. The songs presented here have many four part harmonies.

These video's were recorded at Marist College in 1989. They are the only known video's of the group. This was a one day session so there was no rehearsing. Remarkably most of the harmonies are present.

The Frobisher Bay Volunteers worked hard to perfect their material and you will see this in the video's.
