OBR 8.05d...it is a balk to throw to an unoccupied base, except for the purpose of making a play.
At no time does a pitcher need to disengage the rubber to throw to any base and the pitcher here definitely was making a play on a runner advancing to third, so no balk.

Terrible Call on Catcher Interference
This is the worst call in Cubs history by far, and the ump really should've made the correct call. We still beat the Dodgers 16-0!

@gypsycabs Depending on what rule code you are using, catcher's interference would be the correct call in OBR, LL, and NCAA codes. In NFHS, it would be catcher's obstruction. Penalties in all codes are the same, though.

Too bad this is illegal under NFHS (high school) rules which most youth leagues play under. In my game this would be blown dead and an unsportsmanlike conduct (15 yards) on the head coach. NFHS casebook say "any verbiage that is used that something is not proper" is not allowed.
