The Blauen Funken (blue sparks) is a German-Canadian Mardi Gras group that here in Edmonton since 1970 has been keeping the tradition of German especially Rhineland Karneval alive. Karneval the biggest festival in Germany. Modeled after German Mardi Gras groups the Blauen Funken consist of a Fanfare corps, 2 dance groups (soldiers, soldier girls), royal couple, group of jesters. Twice a year the Blauen Funken puts on a show where all the subgroups perform in very colorful costumes. The Blauen Funken are members of the Federation Of European Fools (FEN) and is the sister organization of the Blaue Funken Cologne one of Germany's oldest Mardi Gras group.
