Blas is now firmly established as one of Ireland's most prestigious summer schools, attracting students from around the world to spend two weeks gaining expertise from Ireland's finest traditional musicians, singers and dancers. The summer school combines the familiar concept of master classes in instrument/voice/dance specific technique and repertoire, as found in many summer schools, but with small class sizes and the unparalleled level of student interaction with tutors that this can offer.

Blas is now going into it's 16th year and will take place in the Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick from June 18th - June 29th 2012.

Apart from tuition and master classes, Blas students can expect a whole range of activities including lectures on Irish Traditional music topics, field-trips, sessions, lunchtime and evening concerts, céilís, and above all, the opportunity to share tunes with some of Ireland's finest traditional musicians. The programme has ample content and contact hours that it can be accredited with 3 Academic credits or 6 ECTS credits towards an international degree (see website for details). This makes Blas unique within the world of traditional music summer schools in that the study of Irish traditional music, song and dance can count as a percentage towards a university degree education.

Past tutors include: Martin Hayes, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, Dennis Cahill, Donal Lunny & Geraldine Cotter (accompaniment), Siobhán Peoples, John Carty & Eileen O'Brien (fiddle), Aileen Dillane, Niall Keegan, Kevin Crawford, Majella Bartley & Conal O' Gráda (flute), Catherine Foley, Mats Melin and Orfhlaith Ní Bhriain, Michael Ryan & Breandán de Gallaí (dance), Sandra Joyce & Seamus Begley (song), and Jim Higgins & Tommy Hayes (bodhrán), with many more being added all of the time.
