Updated March 2012. Most of the clips I've uploaded here are for those interested in Front Loading Washing Machines, whereby I give an account of the wash programme I'm utilizing and its purpose.

A little preamble about my great appreciation for the Candy Group brands: years of experience with these products and similar experience from many friends and family have made me grow keen on this company. By contrast some people might have had genuinely poor experiences with such products as a routinely occurrence with most brands. Yet, it seems to me that the closure of some historical production sites in Italy (Zerowatt) and the UK (Hoover) has left not only redundancy but also a bitter taste in many people's mouths.

My large appliances: past and present.

Washing Machines:

My current washer is a Hoover Nextra from late 2004. It's my pride and joy as it has prooved to be a monster of reliability and intelligent frugality as well as being an exceptional performer.

Indesit WIDL106 Washer-Dryer (2005): it's a good performer although it hasn't been reliable. In less than 2 years of proper use it required a new PCB and porthole door, currently 1 of the water intake valves is broken as well as the dryer.

My previous washing machine was a Zanussi Nexus (1997-2004). I couldn't make myself like it, no matter how hard I tried! This model was abominably basic: the only decent wash programme was carried out at 60 degrees and the temperature could not be lowered without giving up wash time. It also had a little occasional quirk which was that of jumping around the kitchen, I stopped it by placing some weight on its top to hold it still but it eventually smashed its own entrails (it was fixed and sold on eBay).

Before the Zanussi I had a Bendix front loader washer given to me by my landlady when I moved into my first home, it was pretty basic but worked as breeze.

Up to 1996 I did not have my own washer as I lived with my family in Italy, there we had a Zerowatt 260 from 1988. I thought the world of it at the time as he had plenty of programmes and options, and its wash performance was impeccable. During the course of its life it had several drain pumps, a few rubber seals and a complete bearings kit. It's still working to date but in the last couple of years it's occasionally taken for a ride as it's no longer a daily driver.

It all started with a Zerowatt LT863 from 1976 which was the first ever washing machine I laid eyes on. The most vivid memories linked to this washer are related to my knack for flooding my parents' place... but I grew up out of it... eventually! It's still kept in my family's countryside home and it's used by my dad as a storage unit.

Tumble Dryers:

My current tumble dryer is a Hotpoint TDL52 vented dryer from late 2003. I'm not particularly impressed by the quality of some of its components, especially the door catch (which has been repaired but it's still dodgy) but the rest has been fine. In the last 2-3 years I've only been using it to freshen up dry laundry, hence I predict a long life for this appliance.

My previous tumble dryer was an old compact Bendix 3kg which I hardly used as I couldn't be bothered to wait for 2 lots of laundry to dry, besides, it would take ages to dry anything.

Dishwashers:

My current dishwasher is a full size Candy CD 623 X from 2003 which I love to bits, a faithful kitchen companion which strikes me every time with its reliability, frugality and simplicity.

I also use a Zoppas-Elecrolux Stovella full size dishwasher from 2008 twice or three times a year on holiday. I admire its wash and drying performance, however the cycles seem unbelievably long and wasteful.

My previous Dishwasher was an Indesit DG6100W from 2000 which I adored at the beginning, however I started to grow disappointed after a year or so of ownership as its wash potential declined considerably and it gave up the ghost at once after just 3 years.
