"Melbourne quartet shoot for the stars on widescreen debut ***"
Rolling Stone Magazine

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Blackchords, fronted by songwriter Nick Milwright, have been widely acclaimed both on their native turf and in the UK "One of the best Australian debut releases", [Reverb Magazine] "A very exciting surprise from Down Under." [Clash Magazine, UK] with critics raving that their darkly majestic collection of understated songs recalls the best bits of Ryan Adams, Elbow and Jeff Buckley.

Blackchords have been around in one form or another since 2005, but it was in 2006 that they first created a stir, when as an unsigned band their video for 'Broken Bones' won first place at Melbourne's prestigious St Kilda Film Festival beating off competition from a host of established artists. In 2009 the same song went on to become a double finalist in the ISC [International Songwriting Competition], for best rock song & video. It has now also been nominated for The 2011 St Helier, Online Music Awards in the Best Video category.

The long awaited debut, self-titled album was released in 2009 ''Melbourne quartet shoot for the stars on widescreen debut" enthused Rolling Stone Magazine. Since the album launch the band have been busy touring the album across Australia and beyond.

In 2009 they made their first visit to Europe in support of debut single 'At World's End' the video for the track was promptly play-listed by MTV and NME TV. While, key industry title Record Of The Day eulogised "We were won over. Their widescreen, Americana-tinged sound is never more ambitious than on this." Further plaudits followed with QTheMusic.com making 'At World's End' their track of the day: "You'll be won over after one listen. Imagine Interpol with their top button undone." The tour culminated with a headline show at London's Camden Barfly and an appearance at Alan McGee's [Creation Record] Death Disco club night.

Their second visit to the UK in 2010 in support of second single 'Pretty Little Thing' saw Blackchords play four packed showcases at The Great Escape Festival including the famed Aussie BBQ shows alongside the likes of Hungry Kids of Hungary, Dappled Cities & Bluejuice. The critical acclaim continued with CMU's guide to the Great Escape exclaiming "innovative, fresh, young and vibrant, you must catch them! While The Fly Magazine referred to them as "Hailed as the new Radiohead."

From there, Blackchords moved on to Liverpool to play a further three showcases at Liverpool Sound City including an invitation only, acoustic showcase in the John Lennon suite of the Hard Day's Night Hotel. Pins could be heard dropping as the band honoured the occasion with their cover of Johns Lennon's Working Class Hero.

The three-month tour also included a trip to the studio to record a new demo with producer Gavin Monaghan famed for his work with Editors, and Robert Plant.

Meanwhile back in Australia their single 'As Night Falls' and album track 'These Lights' were included on the soundtrack to Australian film, Blame, which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival. [The film & single is set for nationwide release in June 2011].

Despite no formal release plans for the single in the UK, National new music station Amazing Radio picked up on 'As Night Falls and added it to their daytime playlist. It rapidly climbed to number two on their chart, the highest ever position for an Australian artist. The band also featured as artist of the week on the Amazing Radio Breakfast show with Georgie Rogers.

To top off an incredible 2010, the band, were invited to open for Powderfinger and Jet at the 12,000 sell-out Myer Music Bowl show on October 29th, for what was Powderfinger's final ever show in Melbourne.

2011 started with an equal bang when the band, were invited to play on men's final day at The Australian Open.

The band, are currently writing and recording their highly anticipated second album, due for release later in 2011.
