Les Frères Guissé on tour March 2011
These three brothers from Senegal are not what you might have come to expect, preferring melodies to rhythm, and acoustic instruments to an all-electric approach.
Djiby, Cheik and Aliou Guissé come from the North of Senegal and their music is informed by the traditions of the Toucouleur people, such as the Yela, but the Guissé brothers prefer saying that their music is universal, for all ages and races.
* With two acoustic guitars and a djembé, the three Guissé brothers are more than a sum of their parts: mesmeric close harmony singing swirls around melodic guitar lines, whilst Alioune quietly plays a variety of percussion.
Rooted in traditional West African sounds, their songs are beautiful, their lyrics poetic, and their music graced with their personal touch and instinctive song-writing.
