Black Back Studio was founded in February of 2007 as Ember's personal project website and online design portfolio. As she completed her studies in graphic design and began to spend more time costume building, the website evolved into a small hobby/business almost exclusively based on mascot costume building.

In catering mostly to the Furry fandom, Black Back Studio also offers traditional and digital convention badge art as well as "Character design Sheets" that many people use as a visual reference for a role-play character or fursona.

Ember's personal fursona and the mascot and namesake of Black Back Studio, is a black-backed jackal. ^_^
