Here at Birds Eye View we take any excuse to celebrate female filmmakers, and what better opportunity than on International Women's Day?! This year to mark the 8th of March we asked our friends, fans and favourite film-types to tell us the film by a female filmmaker that had most inspired them and boy, did you rise to the challenge! We were flooded with films that span the globe, highlight the history of cinema, and run the gamut of genres, from poetic personal narrative to guns-blazing action. And that's why we love to rave about films by women. Because, try as you might, they cannot be contained in easy categories. So, lets have a cheers to women's creative diversity and happy International Women's Day!
Whether you are gearing up for a night of candle-light and soft music, or boycotting even the very mention of love this Valentines, here at Birds Eye View we reckon there's never a better day for making a date with a movie. Check out our romantic recommendations of love in the movies from an array fabulous female filmmakers. Whatever your mood or passionate preferences, we've got something for you. Happy February 14th from everyone at BEV HQ!
Oh, and as a note, some of our favourite love stories can't be found on Youtube. Go to Vimeo to find Permanently Yours, an affectionate tale of life long companionship: https://vimeo.com/30146329. And, for a hilarious musical comedy about hooking up with a bald guy -that most shameful of perversions- check out Bald Guy here: https://vimeo.com/27580488.
