About this user

Founded in 2004, Bidoun is a quarterly publication about art and culture from the Middle East and its Diaspora. Issues treat themes that reflect or refract core concerns from the region—ENVY and RUMORS, GLORY and FAILURE, FLOWERS and HAIR—while sparking conversations well beyond our geographical purview. Bidoun has won a series of awards for its design, its writing, and its mission; the magazine is often taught in university classes across the globe.

The great editor Rajat Neogy once noted that a well-edited magazine should, like sour milk—we prefer labneh—be capable of perpetuating itself. We agree, and then some. For a magazine and the network of people that sustain it—editors, writers, readers, supporters—does much more cultural and artistic work than ever quite finds its way into the pages of the magazine, however well-edited it may be.
