Nato a Sapri, ENNIO MAGALDI, in arte Ennio e il suo Sax, è un polistrumentista nonché Cantante che, pur privilegiando il sax tenore ed il contralto, non disdegna il baritono, il flauto , il clarino e le percussioni.
Dopo anni di studio al clarinetto è passato al sassofono ed ha iniziato a suonare nel 1957 con uno dei migliori complessi del meridione I G. Men, esibendosi in vari locali del Sud come La Buca di Bacco a Positano, Hotel Cappuccini ad Amalfi ed al Festival del Cinema di Messina-Taormina. Nel 1967, dopo aver formato vari complessi: il Tre+Due ed ilThe South Group, lascia la guida di Capo Orchestra e si inserisce come solista in numerosi gruppi Benetti, Pettenati, Vece, Latino, Benci ,Graf, etc., esibendosi in più di 40 locali in Italia: a Roma, Club 84, a Firenze, Pozzo di Beatrice, a Bologna Sporting Club, a Madonna di Campiglio Stork Club, a Riccione Savioli, ed allestero, ad Amsterdam, Blue Note, al Cairo, Casinò Mokattam, a Cadaques (E.), Club Mediterranèe, ed a Ginevra, Club B. Azzan.
Quando gli impegni di lavoro glielo hanno consentito, si è anche dedicato al Jazz esibendosi a Napoli, al Circolo del Jazz, a Milano al Capolinea ed altri. Nel 1987, terminata la professione, si è potuto dedicare finalmente al genere che più lo attraeva il Sax-Bar, esibendosi in vari locali Emiliani.Ora nella sua sala dincisione, va riversando su disco la produzione di oltre 40 anni di attività, di cui questo CD è una piccola, ma significativa panoramica.
ENNIO MAGALDI è un convinto estimatore di STAN GETZ, ma la sua sonorità, pur morbida, è più corposa di quella del mitico saxofonista americano. Possiede un fraseggio fluido, un controllo strumentale impeccabile ed un notevole senso dello swing. E anche raffinato balladeur, nella linea dei grandi interpreti della tradizione, quali C. HAWKINS e B. WEBSTER. Privilegia i ritmi neo-latini, e i grandi standards della musica leggera e del Jazz.
