It will help you to know that the reason people take the clamp off is that there is an air pocket between the clamp and the curler which reduces the conduction of the heat.... :D

@bereburrito I concur... this is what you do with a straightner......also... the best curls are with a 'barrel curler' with no clamp at all and you just wrap your hair around the heat isn't lost to the clamp just to the hair..
