Hey there, my name is Hannah! I'm currently Miss Appalachia's Outstanding Teen 2011. (Miss America's Outstanding Teen Organization)
I was named a top ten semi-finalist at the 2010 Miss Maryland's Outstanding Teen pageant, and I was named 2nd runner up and the recipient of the overall interview award at the 2011 Miss Maryland Outstanding Teen pageant.

I am a National Spokesperson for the American Heart Association, I am a member of the government relations team for the AHA, a Stroke Ambassador for the state of Maryland, a proud member of the Lancaster Heart Association, a local teen spokesperson for the Partnership in Carroll County, Soon to be a part of the Virgina Heart Association, and I frequently am in schools educating kids of all ages about my forever platform, you guessed it.... Heart Disease.
"I ♥ my Heart" is my platform; Six years ago, my 54 year old aunt died of a heart attack. At that moment, I was only a little girl and I didn't understand what exactly was going on. Then about 2 years ago, I was in for a rude awakening. I am more than twice as likely to have heart disease because of genetics!! That is why I make it my job to live a heart healthy lifestyle and it has truly been transforming. Once I chose my platform, (Personal commitment to community service) it stuck with me and I became so passionate about making a difference. No matter how many lives I impact, my goal is to save at least one life. It truly only takes the power of one to change lives and make the difference. Most of the time, I am teaching children and even adults within and out of my community about how to empower themselves so that they can carry on my message of heart disease awareness. Heart Disease is the #1 killer of men and women; and the most crucial part to changing the statistic is through primary prevention. Basically, this means to prevent Heart Disease from happening in the first place.

I have also created a program "Lavender for Love" which is a program which enables teens to begin or continue the fight against Heart Disease. As a teen spokesperson for several organizations, I make it my job to educate and promote. Today, one third of teenagers are obese, and obesity is the #1 cause of heart disease, meaning that one third of teens have the number one contributor to Heart Disease as an obstacle to overcome. Some researchers say, that our generation of teenagers will be the very first generation to die younger then our parents. Another problem is that people overlook Heart Disease. Especially teenagers. This disease is very relevant to teens, as well as adults so my hope in "Lavender for Love" is to make an impact on teenagers that our generation is not just the future, but we are the now generation and we must beat this battle so eventually we can say, Heart Disease is NOT the #1 killer of men and women!
