First off, very good job by both bands - two of my favorites. NSU - crisp, punchy sound. As usual, strong trumpets and mellophones. BCU - smooth, full, velvety sound. As usual, fat, round, full baritone sound. Love both bands for their showcase of musicianship.

@Blakmajik78 I like Southern, but the SWAC focuses way too much on stands battles. It's called "marching" band for a reason. You might as well just be a pep band if all you're going to do is stay in the stands. The field is where it's at!!

Southern is the undisputed beast in the stands and clearly won the 5th. But this field show was boring and disappointing. Nothing new, nothing creative and nothing exciting.

FAMU wins the field show and SU wins in the stands. And the sky is blue and Republicans hate Obama... This should not be surprising to anybody.

Great articulation on the Chicago song, SU. Damn good versatility to have that in the playbook. Oh, and A&M... very impressive. You sound very good.

SCSU, your stands sound is much better with the percussion section near the top. Please keep them up there and not down front. The trumpets definitely play with more of an edge now. Love the power sound - just keep it clean the MEAC way and you guys are OK with me.

@Jordan201083 Nah, playboy. Anybody who has heard Southern over the years knows that their trumpets never get covered up by any section. Period. And I go way back as a fan. The trumpets sound clean, but there is no denying the fact that the mellophones and especially btones are covering them ...

Very balanced distribution of power. Tubas and tbones with faaaaat bass sound at 1:10. Good to hear SOT back at full strength. How many this year? Sounds like at least 40. Trumpets at 1:20... French horns at 1:30... and Euphoniums at 1:50. Very big, full sound.

I hate to compare band years because each year has its own identity, but I honestly have not heard this type of intensity and strength throughout ALL layers since '01. Nice clarity and power combo.

Way to attack that low E flat at 0:15 tubas and hold onto the full note. Beast.

Love the way this arrangement fully utilized the french horns, euphoniums and trombones with moving parts that synchonized so well. Oh, and as always the sousas are hitting hard.

@LadyBMW08 And I can definitely tell the difference. Love the full sound. Hate the thin, tight sound of the marching baritones that most bands use. They sound like big cornets - especially when they overblow. Hope you guys keep the Kanstul's around for a long time.

For you younguns who don't know, this was the ultimate roller skating jam back in the day. Brings back great memories of the 80s. Boom, please keep this in the playbook for us old heads. Love it!

@igtoxghost The upright or concert baritones are the best in my opinion, too. The marching btones/euphs have grown on me, though. And some sound better than others. Some have a tight, narrow sound. But some like the Kanstuls with the bigger bore and bell have a much fuller sound.

Incredible. Full scores like this were made for the 100. Can you beat them at crank battles? Yes. But NOBODY'S band is touching this.

Nice breath control and good pyramid balance, Fam. I've seen way too many clips of this fanfare where the screaming 1's at the top are too overloaded and it ruins it. Good job.

Absolutely love the full, round sound of the euphoniums. They sound so much better than the thin marching baritones that most bands use. From 0:50 to 1:06, the euphoniums went He-Man.
