About Me:
He is the winner of RADAR Radio's Unsigned Find for 2011, with the track "Don't You Think", the first single from his debut EP, "Epitome". The same single made him a finalist for NA2R, Australia's premiere radio competition for new artists.
In 2011 alone, Barry supported R&B superstar, Brian McKnight, on his Australian tour, quickly followed by support spots for two other US R&B/Soul artists, Eric Benet and Joe. He has also just finished 2011 by supporting K-Ci & JoJo on their "Love Life" tour across Australia and New Zealand. In addition, Southgate also released his first EP, "Epitome", and landed a small role in the upcoming feature film, "The Sapphires", alongside Jessica Mauboy & Deborah Mailman.
As a songwriter, he has penned songs for the likes of Sasha-Lee Davids (South African Idols winner), Monrose (German pop group), Hillsong LIVE and Stan Walker. Barry has also toured internationally with Darlene Zschech and multiple Grammy-award winning artist, Israel Houghton.
Barry first rose to fame as a semi-finalist on the second season of Australian Idol and was chosen as the only non-Top 12 or Wildcard contestant to perform at the show's grand finale at the Sydney Opera House, televised and viewed by millions.
He hosted a PR tour for Channel Ten, and was a celebrity guest alongside "Neighbours" star, Dan O' Connor, for Telstra's Australian Idol media presentation. Southgate also performed before the Pope at World Youth Day, a televised event that reached half a billion people worldwide.
