As a kid Barb Barton wanted to make movies. Well, she never did take it up professionally but has a great time filming her good friend Helen Roy (Wikwemikong First Nation). Her videos are entertaining as well as educational...how to make some favorite Anishnabek recipes and learn a bit of the Ojibwe language as well. Helen teaches Ojibwe language at Michigan State University and devotes her life to saving this language from extinction. She is also a musical performer, half of Diiva miinwa Davis. They have several CDs out on Sunshine Records that are collections of pop/country/rock/gospel tunes translated into Anishnabowin (ojibwe language). Visit the web page at www.worldwidesunshine.com.
Barb is also an accomplished singer/songwriter, guitarist, and performer whose music has been touching the lives of people since the mid-1980's. She has won several Michigan music awards.

About Me:
Featured in the Helen in the Kitchen series is my good friend and Anishinaabowin teacher Helen Roy. Helen has been teaching Ojibwe language her entire adult life, and currently is with Michigan State University. She and her musical partner and husband David Fuhst have a duet called DiivamiinwaDavis, and they perform popular music translated into Anishinaabowin. You can order their CDs by contacting them at diivamiinwadavis@hotmail.com
I am a member of the Native Wild Rice Coalition (www.nativewildricecoalition) and have been co-facilitating wild rice camps in Michigan for the last three years. The ricing videos are intended to instruct folks on how to make the tools needed for ricing. Please visit our web page for more information on wild rice (Manoomin)!
Musically, I have been a singer/songwriter all of my life, performing around the Great Lakes and East Coast. I have released 5 CDs and have received several awards, including Best Vocalist in Folk Music - Detroit Music Awards, and was a Resident Artist on Isle Royale National Park. You can order my music from my web page at www.barbbarton.com or from CD Baby.
