How does the ice shelf hold back land based ice? It's not secured against anything. Surely if there was any pressure on it it would just float out to sea?

@letzCdis You see large amounts of ice crumbling into the sea. What you don't notice is the ice sheet it fell from getting a little lighter and rising out of the ocean a little.
