I wasn't knocking Wind. but Wieland Wagner who wnted to get away from the Melchior, Lorenz type of tenor. Wind. was a very good lyrico/spinto tenor, just listen to his Walter but the heavy stuff wasn't for him. Maybe you forget that Hopf sang the Siegfrieds in the early '60's. Many in German say ...

This does exist on DVD. You just have to know where to look. It's from the Royal Opera House at Stockholm. The date of this recording is 2/21/76. Birgit's last new role was one of the most difficult in the entire repitoire. She was fantastic, as always.

I heard Franco many times at the Met. All I can say is WOW! Would that we had a voice like that today. There are good tenors but none great like Franco was. Above all he had great control & legato, never scooped. BRAVO FRANCO !!!!

Listen to Concerto Pucciana from 1954. Di Stefano & Tebaldi Concert on Puccini's 30th Anniversary. What singing!! Besides excerpts it has the complete Act IV from Manon Lescaut. The beauty of those two voices blending has never been surpassed & both were in their prime.

I sawCorelli at the Met many times in many roles. This Boheme brings back so many memories. During the 1971 June Festival Corelli sang 3 times, two Cavardossi's & one Rodolfo. The Toscas were Levine's debut. The Boheme performance turned the audience into frenzied fans. After the curtain calls, t...

She will never be surpassed in her "Fach". The voice was clear & on point. Fearless & very humble. Her curtains very very short. She never "milked" the applause, she did'nt have to. Her Brunhilde with a dislocated shoulder & her arm in a sling was monumental. She was very kind to her colleagues.

Listen to the 1954 Concerto Pucciana with Tebaldi & Di Stefano. Besides the arias & duets fro "Boheme" they sing the complete Act IV of Manon Lescaut. Two of the most inately beautiful voices at the height of their powers. The LP has the complete ML, the CD omits some of the first part.
