Welcome to the BTforAsthma YouTube channel, your source for patient perspectives and educational information about bronchial thermoplasty (BT), a new device based procedure for the treatment of severe asthma in adults.
Bronchial thermoplasty (BT) is a bronchoscopy based procedure for the treatment for severe persistent asthma in patients 18 years and older whose asthma is not well controlled with inhaled corticosteroids and long acting beta agonists.
BT is expected to complement asthma maintenance medications by providing long-lasting asthma control and improving asthma-related quality of life of patients with severe asthma. In addition, BT has been demonstrated to reduce severe exacerbations (asthma attacks), emergency rooms visits for respiratory symptoms, and time lost from work, school and other daily activities due to asthma.
The most common side effect of BT is a temporary increase in the frequency and worsening of asthma symptoms, usually happening within a day of the procedure and resolving within a week with standard care.
