Traversing some of the most spectacular scenery in America's Heartland, our 11 miles of trackage (including our 156' high Bass Point Creek High Bridge) is virtually all that remains of the Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern Railroad. The FtDDM&S was an electric line which served the cities of Fort Dodge, Des Moines, and points in between, until 1968.Today, we offer something for everyone, with Thomas The Tank Engine events, dinner trains, dessert trains, picnic trains, our 1920's excursion train, Pumpkin Express, and our extremely popular Santa Express trains.
The Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad & Museum is one of the few museums in the world where you can witness steam (we're the home of the world's last commercially-produced steam locomotive), diesel, and electric operations all in one location.
