About Me:
Small minds only see narrow pictures...FYI,I dont fight my dogs. They are better trained, socialized & behaved than most dogs you will ever see. They play with other dogs & kids(while supervised)They do shultzhund training but I still can walk them on the Las Vegas strip during busy hours with out a incident.People, old & young(white, black, latino, asian
I notice that a lot of people leave nasty comments on most Youtube vids that say Pitbull fight and similar topics. Obviously their curiosity to see a Pitbull fight lead them to that page. I personally read all pages about Pitbulls because Im constantly trying to learn something. A Pitbull breed is not for every person. You have to be prepared to FULLY exercise the animal, socialize the animal and have the ability to either Fully monitor or Fully control its contact with other people and other animals. If a person can not fully adhere to any of those responsibilities, then do us responsible Pitbull owners a favor, because you are better off owning a Gold Fish.
What makes Pitbull bites such a problem over other dog bites is because of they way which they bite. And No, its not because of "lock jaw". Pitbulls jaws do not lock. I have personally experienced this because I have been attacked and bitten by many diffrent breeds of dogs. Most other breed's bites contain several repeated bites with a short slashing motion. Pitbulls bite, hold, then pull with their necks and legs, to un-anchor whatever they have in their mouth, which causes their bites to be more severe. Any un-monitored and un-supervised dog is an accident waiting to happen.
Dogs communicate with subtle eye and facial movements as well as body gestures. Most people, in general, dont not realize what is being communicated to or being perceived by a dog. Most Pitbulls that reach maturity tend to take offense to prolonged direct eye contact which in the animal kingdom is a show of dominance. A resistance to domainant behavior is a reason that many Pitbulls, who were great as pups, do not fair well at dogs parks once they become adults. People make direct eye contact as a part of normal behavior and they feel dogs are supposed to ignore thousands of years of genetics because they love their dog. Direct eye contact can be the underlying cause of most dog bites that occur with children. Also, a child running from a dog triggers its prey drive. Adult Pitbulls, in general, do not like to be dominated in any form by any animal, large or small.
Unless dominance or boundaries are set early on, most dogs, especially a Pitbull, will have a tendency to challenge that show of dominance. Part of the breeding early on that made these dogs to fight, whether it was done by breeders consciously or unconsciously made them non tolerant of any dominant behavior. Dogs that did not submit to dominant behavior showed the characteristics early breeders needed for a fighting dog.
That explains the Pitbulls fury when it is fighting. Its not fighting for the same reasons people fight (for respect or out of just anger), it is because of its need to dominate the other dog and because the other dog is displaying dominant behavior towards it in return. If you have two dogs with a need to dominate each other then you are in for one hell of a fight. Attach that to a dog that was bred (all terrier breeds) to be an independent thinker and to have a high prey drive and you will have a very determined animal. Dogs that are used in hunting mainly operate off of prey drive and commands.
Being a good dog owner is more complex than just being nice and sweet to your dog. People who believe that are just naive and have got lucky. A part of the problem is Pitbull pups are cute and people think that they will easy dogs to manage when they become older. Some people are lucky and they get a very cold tempered Pitbull. But like people, all Pitbulls are not going to be cold tempered for ever. If you are unable to communicate with your dog, with out being abusive, that you are the dominant individual, then you are festering a problem. Without rules or restrictions, that dog, when it reaches maturity, will eventually feel that it is the dominant one. All the hugs and kisses in the world will not change that.
Im a Pitbull owner and I understand and accept these truths about my favorite breed. I practice responsible ownership by following the guide lines that I previously stated. I wish others would do the same

@filatino88 Thx... I try.. I "tell" my dogs all the time that while they protect me from things they feel might try to cause me harm, I am here to protect them from the things that they dont understand. Strangly enough, I think they understand me.
