Before It's Too Late
At the beginning of the 1990s there were around 5,000 species on the International Union for the Conservation of Natures (IUCN) Red List of Endangered Species. Today less than 20 years later that number has increased to more than 17,000 and growing.
Scientists estimate that:
Between 10% and 15% of the earths remaining plant species,
23% of remaining mammal species
12% of remaining bird species
32% of this planets remaining amphibian species are threatened with extinction.
Its shameful that humanity has increased the species extinction rate over the past few centuries by as much as 1,000 times the background rates typical over our planets history.
Now, with the added pressure of global warming, hundreds more species will undoubtedly join the 17,000 species already on the Red List.
