I finally coughed up the money and bought a 20hp mercury last Thursday! It turns out they are made by Tohatsu!! It said so in the owners manual. It really seems to go in your boat. How fun! :o)

You would LOVE the 20hp. I have one and it doesn't break a sweat . That 9.9 is doing good though for the weight.

A local Marine boat dealer is selling a 2000 Evinrude short shaft electric start 15. Was thinking of buying it to replace my old rope start 81 Evinrude. Some people say these early four strokes had some bugs. It sure purrs in this video!

Your Dad looked very frusterated! I have an 81 Evinrude 15 ropestart and it can be exhausting if they don't run right. You have to replace the plugs in them every season and when you start them you have to try not to flood them or they will be a bear to start. I feel your dads pain! Great Video!

Just replaced the prop on mine. I found a good replacement for $50. Solas Amita 3 Aluminum prop. Made in Taiwan. Sounds like a cheap prop but it isn't.

I agree. Technology and weight still limit fuel and direct injected outboards to larger sizes. I long for the day when the ancient carburetor is gone forever! Perhaps 5 more years?
