Germany is not a poor country like the Phillipines so I think the US bases are still there because of the security issues. But now that the cold war has been over for 18 years perhaps the Germans will ask the US Govt. to remove the bases. But why did Poland and Czech republic want those missiles and radar installations?

There may be a sense that Russia is still unstable and that international cooperation economically, militarily and diplomatically is beneficial.

What do public opinion polls say in Germany on the Issue of US bases? we have polls all the time in the US ..like Gallop poles that addresse every issue.

Do you know about the Prussian lower house having the 3 circle voting system until 1918 where your representation was based on how much you paid in taxes. So Bill Gates would have much more influence than you or I. That's an interesting system.

It is interesting that Germany was ever called Germany because they used to be known as the "Germanies"...meaning everything including Austria I think. Austrians speak German not Austrian...just as Americans speak English not American...same as the Canadians.

It was natural that the FDR would absorb the GDR and not vice versa since the GDR was an economic failure(though the most successful of the communist block countries). Germans wanted a republic after years of monarchical rule and a federal state was inherited from the Second Reich...which was a Federal state...a federation of kings and princes.

The current German state has many similarities to the US federal republic.
