As far as humans go: There is no procreation goal for gays, there are health risks (AIDS is primarily a gay disease, but has spread through the drug community and starting through the promiscuous straight community). Marriage itself is a religious concept thgough. It has benefits for the reason that most married people will eventually have children, gays can't have children, therefore no financial benefits because they won't have that drain on income (LOL, dang kids and their toys) as far as them being able to be "civally united" for technical reasons, no problem. Now, as far as the gay thing. From a non-religious point: The purpose of humans (similar to animals) is to procreate. Humans are different than animals by terms of reproduction (sex in a non-nasty way) by that human sex has a pleasure elemtnt. (a few animals have that pleasure factor but that is only like 2) Therefore, when you see animals being "gay" it isn't for the same reasons as humans. Governemt and religion are only seperate in the sense that the govt. can't put of a national religion and/or discriminat based on religion. This doesn't mean that their views can't be based off religion just like a non-religious person's views are based off a secular background.
