In my opinion Lincoln is not speaking from a place of validity or earnestness. You are of course entitled to your own.
People chase and strive for enlightenment as though it's something that they can "get". Do you even know what enlightenment is? Do you know what it is you're seeking?
Lemme throw a big ol' monkey wrench in that whole machine for ya: YOU ARE ALREADY WHAT YOU ARE SEEKING. You can't chase enlightenment anymore than you can chase your own body. That's why you can spend an entire lifetime caught up in the seeking game without ever realizing: enlightenment is searching for enlightenment with enlightenment's eyes.
