About this user
I am on YouTube because of the support i find from other women with natural hair. It was nice to hear from others who can relate to what I'm going through. I wish it were just the media that tried to tell me that I am not the standard of beauty, because i could ignore that. I get negative comments and confused responses from my family--mainly my mother and aunt. My mother, who relaxed my hair when i was 3, is a strong believer in whats "easiest"....personally, i find washing and drying easier than adding relaxers, straightening combs, and curing irons, into the mix. She has never outright said anything purposefully hurtful, but i can tell by the way she looks at me, and continually insists I use texturizers to loosen my texture...that she feels sorry for me, for what-ever reason. My only unfailing support comes from my cousin, who went natural for a bit, then was compelled by her mother, who always invisioned my cousin to have long flowing hair by that age, to relax it, since she was still under 18 at the time and her mother still did her hair. Just like my mom (her sister), she is of the opinion that it is more work. I dont understand it. My journey to natural hair was difficult, but it was also a great learning experience about our culture and how it effects even the smallest sectors of our lives: our hair. While on YouTube, i hope to learn more from other inspiring Black women who wear their hair natural, and to inspire others as well!
