One of the three pilots of the Phantom Pain special forces, Auel Neider along with Sting Oakley and Stellar Loussier had his physical and mental conditions severely altered using brainwashing methods, drugs and special combat training. Being the most rash and vicious, he found enjoyment in obliterating his enemies and often triggered his teammate Stellar using her block word in combat.

Auel first was first introduced during the attack on the PLANT colony Armory One, in which the Panthom Pain stole three of ZAFTs most advanced mobile suits. He managed to seize the ZGMF-X31S Abyss Gundam, which he continued to pilot after the incident. He was later involved in the battle on the destroyed PLANT colony Junius Seven, after which Phantom Pain went to engage the ZAFT battleship Minerva in several battles on Earth.

While investigating a ZAFT territory, Auel and his teammates encountered ZAFT pilots Shinn Asuka and Athrun Zala, not realizing who they were. Upon the discovery of a secret laboratory by ZAFT, Auel had a reminiscent of his mother who was stationed there and said his own block word, mother. He then panicked and lost control, and had his mental condition readjusted.

Auel later engaged in another fight against the Minerva, where his mobile suit was temporarily damaged by the ZGMF-X10A Freedom. Not long after, Stellar was seized on board the Minerva, and Auel and Sting had their memory of her erased. However, it was indicated that Auels memory modification was not complete since he felt that something was missing.

With the battleship Minerva advancing towards Gibraltar, the Earth Alliance fleet closed it in a pincer move. Auel quickly engaged in battle against Shinn Asuka, in which Shinn gained the upper hand and destroyed the abdomen of the Abyss. The mobile suit then crashed into the sea and exploded under water, condemning Auel to his death.
